Traveling Houseplants

I have a small plant in my house, and would like to keep it in the coach.

I'm thinking I could put the entire pot into a small wicker wastebasket and wedge it behind the passengers seat, hoping that it will not turn over. I'm not sure where else in the coach it would be protected from sliding around and spilling out of the pot.

The bathroom sink won't work, I had a bottle of water in there on one trip and the bottle ended up in the shower.

The other problem is to keep my cat from eating it. She can't reach it now, its in the bay window in front of the kitchen sink, if she jumped up on the counter, she would land in the sink.

Are geraniums poisonous to cats???

This plant has blooms at least 9 months each year, and keeps a nice green color the rest of the time.

Do you travel with plants? I really want to keep this plant, I think it would be nice to have it sitting on the dinette table when I am parked.

  1. How about putting it in one of those plastic milk crate things and putting it in the shower? You could stuff a towel or newspapers in around the pot to keep it steady. Of course if that's where you'll keep the kitty litter, the fumes might kill it. :)

  2. I agree about the plastic milk crate idea...but yes, geraniums are toxic to cats/dogs. Maybe find another plant you like that isn't toxic?

  3. I have decorated my coach with lots of colorful flowers... they are all fake... but very pretty.

  4. I plan to have some plants - in fact I have three little hanging vases that I can use as plant starters or for single blooms. Can you hang it when you are stationary, and block it in inside the kitchen sink or microwave when traveling?

  5. I am planning on having some miniature orchids that take up less space or I could attach them to the wall in the kitchen...

  6. I think it would be worth a try if it gives you joy...

  7. I am planning to take a plant....if it doesn't work out, I'll find it a new home down the road. I, too, want to try orchids, which could easily hang in a basket on a wall, secured with "museum putty" - out of kitty's reach. I agree, if it gives you joy - go for it.

  8. We don't carry plants with us because we cross international borders and plants can be a problem with that. I know lots of RVers that do carry plants and have them outside as patio decorations.
