Foggy New Years Eve

Mustang Island

It has been foggy for a few days.  The weather channel said the fog would burn off by 11am.  I waited until about 12:30 and walked to the beach.  Still foggy, I walked about 3 miles along the shore and took some pictures.  There were many RV's parked on the beach - pop up campers, van campers, fifth wheels and a class A.

there is a camper in the fog - click to enlarge photo

I wanted to ring in the New Year on the beach.  I should have planned better and picked up a permit to park the RV on the beach. I am nervous about driving on the sand, but the sand is packed pretty solid and there are a lot of cars and campers on the sand.

Last week I made a reservation for a campground near the beach. Tonight, I was going to walk to the beach at midnight, I hesitated because of the fog.  Around 7:45 I started out for the beach, thought I would celebrate with Australia (8pm here) instead of waiting around 'til midnight. Halfway to the beach, I turned back, I will celebrate the New Year sitting outside at the picnic table.

I'm not complaining, I am very thankful to be where I am.  I was not comfortable walking in the fog to the beach, I will definitely plan better next year. This is still a learning experience for me, I have been in my new home for about 7 weeks now.

I don't make New Year Resolutions, I know what my bad habits and faults are and accept them for who I am. I do like to make plans and will post tomorrow or later this week about that.

If the fog is gone in the morning, I'll try to watch the sunrise, at the beach, on the first day of the New Year.

Happy New Year to You!!!
Wishing you a
 Happy and Healthy
2012

  2. I think your idea of making plans, not resolutions is a fine idea. Resolutions just end up being frustrating, for me, anyway. Great pictures of the beach, even with the fog. Is that a great blue heron? He's walking on the beach and doesn't mind the fog! Hope he watches out for all the cars!

  8. What a wonderful way to begin the new year with a beach view. There's nothing quite like being able to look out across the water and envision many possibilities. Wishing you a wonderful 2012.

  9. There were many days of fog on Mustang Island when I was there in November. It usually burned off by afternoon. I loved parking on the beach and being so close to the ocean. HAPPY NEW YEAR.

  10. Wow, even with the fog it's quite beautiful -- not a bad place to be to ring the New Year in, regardless of the time zone you're choosing to go by! (Personally, here in the central time zone, we rang it in at Buenos Aries time -- about three hours earlier and much easier on the body!) Happy 2012!!! :)

  12. You are in my old stomping grounds. I was raised in Ingleside and Bayside, Texas. Spent many a day on the beaches of Rockport and Port Aranasas. In fact, I was just back there in June.

  13. 7 weeks??? It seems like you've been on the road a lot longer than that. I love your fog photos, especially the ones of the bird.

Happy 2012 to you, Teri. I hope it brings you everything that makes you happy. :)

  14. Happy New Year to you! Have a wonderful 2012. We've got plenty of fog here in Eugene, Oregon. Could sure use some sunshine anytime now!

  15. Hi up there! That fog was crazypants, wasn't it? Our friend, Leslie, kept saying "that fog will burn right off."

If you are willing to camp on the beach, you might also enjoy boondocking in one of the Padre campgrounds. Admittedly, it's more crowded than parking on the beach, but it doesn't feel crowded. Both are very quiet, and have different personalities. We' in Bird Island Basin right now, which is even less expensive than the $8/night at Malaquite.

  16. I'm glad you saw the NY in using another time zone. The beach was beautiful, but it's good to follow your instincts. God speed your new life and year. :)

  17. Happy New Year Teri,...I think you are very wise..when things don't feel right err on the side of caution...you can never really go wrong on that. If you make it as far as Arizona let me know...
