Remember that when you leave this Earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received, only what you have given, a full heart enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage. -St. Francis of Assisi

Raton Pass

I arrived at my daughters house last Thursday.

I saw a window of opportunity with the weather
and decided to head to Denver NOW
rather than wait until closer to the time I will start my seasonal job.

I signed up for text messages from the
 Colorado Department of Transportation.
CDOT Traffic Hotline  303-639-1111

This morning, I received a text that Raton Pass is closed.
Here is a picture from one of the websites.
I drove over this pass on Wednesday
and stayed overnight at Trinidad Lake State Park in CO.
I had clear and sunny skies and perfect weather when I went over the pass.

Weather Delay

This has been a terrible "weather" year.   My prayers are with the families in Joplin, MO - such a devastating tornado. Our lives can change in an instant, without warning.

Back in April when I first made a schedule, I planned on leaving on Thursday. Then I decided I would leave home on Wednesday, May 25th. Due to the weather in the areas I will be traveling to, I changed my departure back to Thursday, May 26th. I thought I may want to find a campsite where I could stay for longer than one night - midway through my route. I may just stay at each site one night, travel less miles per day and allow extra time - in case I have to change my route along the way. A lot of the State Parks that I called have flooding - in lakes and rivers - and more rain is predicted for a lot of these areas. I also found out that if I wanted a guaranteed site in these parks, the reservations have to be made at least 2 weeks ahead of time, and an additional fee is charged for the reservation. It's too late to make reservations, they still have first come, first served sites available. I have several campground books and memberships - so I am not worried about finding a place to park for the night. I use campgrounds for the electricity and I'm sure I could do without electricity for one night if I had to.

check out this link:  new TOR-CON weather prediction

At weather.com there is a new feature TOR-CON, this shows if there is a "possibility" or "probability" of a tornado and they rate the areas. They are predicting a stronge possibility of tornadoes through the area I would be traveling on Wednesday, and severe thunderstorms. I have decided that one day won't make a big difference in my plans. I have plenty of time, I do not have to be in San Antonio until June 2nd.
Severe Thunderstorms in red areas on Wednesday

Unfortunately, I will be driving through "tornado alley" to reach my destination. This is not the best time of year to be heading this way, and RV'ers are always talking about driving away from the bad weather. What if you are meeting family? Do you stay away from hot areas in the summer and cold areas in the winter, even if that means not going to a family reunion?

Anyway, once I decided to delay my departure, I wasn't rushing to get things done - so now -  I'm not really ready to leave on Wednesday.

Staying Inside

It seems that most of the country is being hit with some type of bad weather.
If you are in an area that is affected, I hope you can stay inside and keep warm and dry.

As long as my Dad does not need anything, I should be able to stay inside and stay warm and dry. I'm not real concerned about getting out to shovel yet. I will wait to see how much snow we get.
Right now the snow is blowing and drifting, so it is not covering up the driveway.

Stay safe and pray that it's not going to get as bad as predicted.

Attitude Adjustment

Ok, I am not a negative person, I usually don't worry about things. I have always been good at coming up with solutions and making adjustments to whatever comes my way.

When I think about some of my recent blogs, I feel like I have been whining and worrying. I think the weather has made me impatient for the changes that I am making.
I wanted something to blame when things aren't moving along fast enough.

As long as I continue to work towards my goal,
I need to let things fall into place and happen on their own time.

Normally I don't watch much TV, in fact I think it's been off for about two weeks, until today. I usually just have the radio on all day long.  Now I'm watching all of the hype about the weather. Is it better for them to tell us ahead of time, or is it better to just let it happen?

I have a lot to be thankful for,
so I am going back to being grateful for what I have.

The truth is that most of the things
you'll end up worrying about
will work themselves out
regardless of how much you worry.

Please don't snow....

The weatherman is predicting

a "historical" weather event

Here's to hoping that the weather pattern shifts before it reaches us.

I should have left when I had the chance!!!
This is definitely the last winter I spend in the Midwest.
2 to 4 inches of snow on Monday
and 7 to 13 inches of snow
Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning
and 50 mph winds

I hope you are staying warm and dry
wherever you are
