Remember that when you leave this Earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received, only what you have given, a full heart enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage. -St. Francis of Assisi

Horseback Riding on the Beach

On Monday morning, I was up early. All of the guys were going deep sea fishing and I was driving some of them so the girls could have one of the cars to use during the day. I don't have any pics from their excursion.

They caught kingfish and cooked some for dinner, the guys fried up some seasoned fish nuggets and also grilled some fillets. We also froze some of the fish. Excellent fish served with homemade mango salsa, black beans and rice and salad.

After I dropped them off at the marina, I walked around the Bay for about an hour taking pictures of the boats and checking out the RV Park at Isla Blanca County Park. I would like to stay at least a month here in the winter. South Padre has a free shuttle bus that will take you all over the island and the shuttle also goes over the bridge into Port Isabel for shopping at Walmart and HEB.

Diane, Becky and I went horseback riding around 10am, it was a one and a half hour ride. We were all very happy with the horses they chose for us, mine was "Hercules". The three of us seemed to get the biggest horses. Becky is a very experienced rider. Diane and I had ridden many times at Dude Ranches with the Girl Scouts but it has been at least 20 years since our last ride. The stables were across the street from the beach. We were even able to trot with the horses for a little bit.

At the end of the ride they positioned the horses by the water
and used our cameras to take pictures

I did not take surfing lessons the other day. When we were on the beach getting instructions, I knew I would not be going out there. After laying on the board and getting close to the wave, you have to jump up into a standing position facing sideways and balance to ride the wave. I knew that I would not be able to jump into the standing position in one quick swift movement - so I opted to watch and take pictures.

  5. The dinner sounded wonderful. The horse back riding looks like fun. Getting up on a surfboard sounds like doing a Burpee and I don't like those when I work out, so I think I would pass on the surfing too.
