Home Again

For a little while................

Arrived back in IL late Friday afternoon, last night I was sorting through mail and making lists of what I need to do.

Now I am planning my next trip in the coach. I'm leaving sometime around May 25th. I'll be driving from Chicago to San Antonio, hoping to have 7 to 9 days to get there.

Any suggestions for places to stop along the way? I prefer to stay overnite at State Parks or places with similar type settings.

I will be staying with family for about a week in San Antonio, South Padre Island and Corpus Christi and then I will have two weeks to explore on my own on the way back to Chicago.

I want to plan a different route back, so I can travel through many different areas.

I wanted to stop at Stump Lake, it is part of the Mississippi River Fish and Wildlife Area in the southwest corner of Illinois. This wildlife area consists of 24,356 acres and 75 miles along the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers near Pere Marquette State Park.

I will have to check on the flooding in this area, and may have to wait for a different trip to visit Stump Lake and the surrounding area.

I'm planning on taking my cat on this month long trip.  I have taken her into the coach for a few hours. I will take her into the coach everyday for the next 10 days and even take her for an overnite trip sometime next week.

  1. Sounds like you are acclimating her just fine. I have always had indoor-outdoor cats and I don't know how well any of them would have taken to an RV. But it seems cats do quite well from what I read.

I am sadly pet-less at the moment and will remain so until we are acclimated to an RV ourselves!

  2. I really enjoyed Caddo Lake State Park in Texas. It's not too far from Texarkana. Take the very reasonable swamp tour that leaves from the campground. It's an hour or two long on a small pontoon boat. It has a lady pilot. She gives you a real good feel for a southern cypress swamp. :)

  3. Also, I would suggest Arkansas' Hot Springs Nat'l Park. Be sure to splurge on a full treatment at one of the spas. It is a real experience! :) I'll stop now...

  4. If you are going to Pere Marquette State Park you will be right across the river from us, let me know if you want to come by for a visit. Donna & i would love to meet you. If you have time you are welcome to camp here. Let us know. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.

  5. Never camped East of here, but if you're ever in Oregon and want to camp on the coast, Florence is my two-thumbs up. There's a wonderful county campground on the north jetty of the Suislaw River. It's my favorite Oregon campground, for your future reference. I'll be there next month for my annual coastal tune-up.
