Remember that when you leave this Earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received, only what you have given, a full heart enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage. -St. Francis of Assisi

Intuition

How do you make decisions?

I believe that our intuition/gut feelings should control our decision making process.

Have you ever ran into a problem and then said to yourself,
"I had a feeling that this was a bad idea"?

Why do we go against our intuition? How do we help ourselves to listen to our gut feelings about situations? How do we know when wishful thinking is masking our intuition?

I think we let things like fear and guilt get in the way. We make decisions based on what others will think, or what we think someone else needs and not what we need.

Sometimes I would make a decision based on intuition and it would work out for me and anger others.  Many times, I would not listen to my intuition and give in to the desires of someone else.

I need to be true to myself without worrying about others.

My husband would often talk about "being selfish", he felt we needed to learn to say "NO" to others and "YES" to us.

It is time to say "YES" to "ME".

I've talked with my daughter about my plans and she is very supportive.  I have talked to a few of my friends, but most people think that I am just leaving to go to my daughters house in Colorado and maybe do a little sightseeing.

Except for my blogging buddies, I feel that I am all alone in my excitement for the future, I wish I had someone close by to share in the planning.

I am ready and deep down I know this is the right thing for me to do.  I have such an overwhelming desire to get moving, but I am also being practical and making sure I take care of paperwork and finances before I leave.

So, I should be ready to hit the road by June.

  2. Boy do I empathize...like you, my kids were basically supportive but they didn't live really close and were busy with their own lives.

I think that is why I got so busy in the RV forums, places where I could ask beginner questions and not feel silly (well, not TOO silly).

In the meantime, keep sharing your plans and joy will all your blog readers!!

  3. You are on the right track. You are sharing your thoughts & feelings with like minded people who have traveled these many roads before you.

  4. I know what you mean. We have been itching for change for about a year now. We have researched moving to Ecuador, Mexico, and France. We were searching for a good life-style that isn't so costly. But, we also don't want to worry about security. I want to wander. I want to explore. I don't want to stay put. I like change. I think it takes a lot of guts to make changes. Many people continue with their current situation because of a fear of the unknown. I look back at my life experiences, and it is obvious that I have not been one to sit still. I think we have wonderful adventures ahead of us.

  5. I believe in following intuition and my heart. Most "normies" just don't get the idea of hitting the road to see what you can see. Their loss but our gain or the road would get even more crowded.

  6. You have already learned that this blogging community is very close (family like) and wonderfully supportative. I have been amazed to find that I often end up knowing more and caring more about people here (that I have never met) than other places life has taken me. I like this post; your words and fortitude make me remember my own values, and that is never be the follower unless you choose to be and never let others run/plan your life. Do what you want to do!

  7. You are so very right. We should be hitting the road June 1st. You have to follow your gut and do what's right for you We have many people laughing at us and saying our plans are the craziest thing they have ever heard.

We are doing what we want to do. Time seems to be pasting much faster as we get older and we don't want to have the regret that we could have but didn't!

  8. There are advantages and disadvantages to traveling solo. Either way, every decision is your own. Go with your gut feeling and do what's best for YOU. :)

  9. I'm glad your daughter is supportive. She knows you and "get's" it. It's wonderful that there are so many solo women out in blog land for you to watch and follow and learn from as well. If you never did it, you would always wish you had, so I am glad you are going to go for it, Teri.
